Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God.
The outward sign is water and the inward grace is union with Christ in his death and resurrection, birth into God’s family, forgiveness of sins, and new life in the Holy Spirit.
The requirements for Baptism are a renunciation of Satan, repentance of sins, and the acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Holy Baptism is one of the two great sacraments given by Christ to his Church. We understand sacraments as outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as sure and certain means by which we receive that grace. (The other great sacrament is the Holy Eucharist).
If you are interested in receiving the sacrament of baptism, please contact Fr. Daniel at eureka.rector@gmail.com.
Holy Baptism includes the baptismal vow to “continue in the apostles’ teaching and
fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers” (BCP, p. 304). This is a promise to participate in the Holy Eucharist on a regular (ie. weekly) basis, to the best of one’s ability.
