“Pine Beetles and Silk Flowers”

Over the past ten years, slowly but surely, there has been a wave of sickness moving through the Pine trees of the Rocky Mountains, all the way from Canada down to Mexico. 

 Some estimates are that at least one million trees containing more than 1 billion board feet of timber are dying each year. It has changed the landscape and the ecology, not to mention the increased risk of forest fires for at least my lifetime, possibly longer. Good Morning! Since we moved to Eureka a year ago, Charlotte has been busy working on our house; new paint, wallpaper, sanding, filling holes, not to mention the gardens. When we first arrived we couldn’t use the master bedroom, so our friends, Trevor and Noreen Sutton, former Parishioners in Breckenridge who had stopped to visit on their way from Alaska to Arizona, Trevor was Senior Warden at St John’s in Breckenridge. They stayed 8 days working on what we now fondly refer to as the Sutton Room. Then Charlotte was on to the grandchildren’s room the guest room, the music room, hallways, stairways, slowing transforming the house room by room. Read the rest of this entry »

Good morning. In 20 days we will be into the short Salmon fishing season in California. Only ten days long, Charlotte and I are going out twice with John Collins, some of you will be joining us, I am already counting the days.

One of the activities that are always guaranteed to make me sea sick when I am out on the ocean is not watching the horizon in the boat while it moving around in 15 ft swells. Read the rest of this entry »

Good Morning! When I was a little boy, I lived in Dayton, Ohio. I went to public school, and almost all of my classmates were from air force families at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
