Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
2 Kings 4:42-44, Psalm 145: 10-19, Ephesians 3:14-21, John 6:1-21
The Rev. Ron W. Griffin
“Simple Beginnings, Steps of Faith and the Real Jesus”

Good Morning. Last Sunday our focus was on the introductions of the two miracle stories we are considering this morning. The disciples and Jesus have needed a break, they are now so busy, and their mission has become so successful, that more and more people are not just following Jesus, they are proactively anticipating where he is headed and hurrying to get there in advance. When I read this scripture I am always reminded of the Beatles movie A Hard Days Night, which is really just scene after scene of hysterical crowds trying to catch the Beatles, as they dash into cars, trains, and run down the streets of London with the police trying to protect them.  Jesus and the disciples had just crossed the sea of Galilee to get a respite, but a huge number of people had made the ten-mile journey around the sea, as the pace and number of people are picking up. Good Morning!

This week the news was dominated by Michael Jackson’s death, at age 50, a week ago, according to several reports 50 minutes of every 60. And though 65% of us say it’s too much, the viewing audience goes down by half when the news channels switch to other news, so they have been sticking with the money maker.
