Biography

I grew up in County Durham in the North East of England, as a member of the Church of England. My husband Keith and I met at University in Manchester, and marrying after graduation, we moved to Cheltenham in Gloucestershire where I began a teaching career.  In 1974 Keith’s work took us on a three year stint to Washington D.C.  We returned to the U.K in 1977, only to move to suburban Maryland in 1980.

Our travels continued when in 1988 we moved to San Jose, California.  I became a member of Church of Advent of Christ the King in San Francisco, serving there in many and various ministries.  Having been someone who had struggled with the ordination of women, one day my rector stunned me by saying that he saw in me a call to holy orders.  This began the process which saw me graduate in 1999 from Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, be ordained in the Diocese of California by Bishop William Swing, and become the Assistant Rector & Children’s Ministry Coordinator at St. Bede’s in Menlo Park, California, the parish where I had served as seminarian.

In 2000 I was called to the Diocese of New York, to Grace Church Middletown, where I had valuable experience serving as their Associate Rector.  2003 saw me called to Holy Trinity Church in Pawling, New York, as their Priest-in-Charge and Vicar.  As well as ministries within the parish and local community, I served as the local Dean, chair of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, a member of the Bishop’s Budget Committee and of the Mid-Hudson Regional Council.

After retiring at the end of 2012, Keith and I moved to Humboldt County and I began serving as the Resident Associate at Christ Church, becoming the Interim Rector after the retirement of the Rev. Dr. Susan Armstrong.  After the arrival of the Rev. Dr. Daniel London as Rector of Christ Church, I supplied at Martha and Mary Mission in Trinidad, St. Paul’s in Crescent City, and as Sabbatical Priest at St. Alban’s in Arcata.  Now after time away, I was delighted to be invited by Fr. Daniel to be once again, an Associate Priest at Christ Church in Eureka.

I have three adult children, two sons and a daughter all married.  Ian and Peggy with their children, Erin 14, and Sean 10, live in Santa Clara, Sally, Gary and their children Dustin 18, and Megan 15, in McKinleyville, while Philip and Heather are in Phoenix, Arizona.

Perhaps my favorite hobby is reading, especially mystery stories; I also love to play the piano, sing, and as a former Home Economics teacher, to cook, sew, but most of all, spend time with my family, my assorted church families, and good friends.

In Christ,
