Songs of Reflection and Jubilation

The final “Sundays at 4” summer concert at Christ Episcopal Church (15th and H Streets, Eureka) will be on Sunday, August 24, at 4 pm, featuring sacred and secular songs performed by Elizabeth Rau, soprano and Greg Granoff, piano and organ.  The poems of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science, poems by contemporary American poets Deborah Digges and Steve Okwor, and several biblical texts are the inspiration for this program of music composed entirely by local musician Greg Granoff.  Please join us for this free concert featuring two outstanding musicians from our local community.

Rau and Granoff met as church musicians at the Christian Science church and their musical collaboration spans over twelve years.  In addition to their work in churches, they have performed together in Messiah sing-along concerts and at Humboldt State University.  A huge fan of Granoff’s songs, Rau began performing them over the years at other local churches and in Marin County, and after receiving much favorable response to several individual songs, put together this program to share with the community.  Future musical plans for Rau and Granoff include recording a CD of Granoff’s songs.

Elizabeth Rau has appeared as a soloist in local Rhododendron Festival concerts, concerts at the Unitarian Fellowship in Bayside, and in community Messiah Sing-Along performances.  She has also performed and taught voice at Humboldt State University.  Currently she teaches piano and voice in her home and is active playing piano and singing at various local churches.

Greg Granoff is the piano technician at Humboldt State University and the organist at the Christian Science Church in Eureka.  He is an accomplished pianist, organist, and harpsichordist and has accompanied HSU faculty and student performances through the years.

Please join us for this Sunday afternoon concert featuring two talented musicians performing an inspiring program of sacred and secular songs.
