The Christ Episcopal Church campus came alive with the sound of children’s voices during the recent music and arts camp held July 22 through August 5. Christ Church is in its second year of this new outreach ministry that offers a two-week, morning summer day camp for children ages 6 through 12 in the community. The children were divided into four groups and rotated through classes taught by professional, experienced children’s music and art teachers in organ and piano, keyboards, mask-making, singing and drama. On the final day of the camp, families and friends were invited to a performance by the children, followed by a festive luncheon to celebrate the joy of the children’s creativity. Twenty-seven children from the community participated in the camp, and more than eighty family members and friends attended the performance and luncheon.
Besides generous donations from church members and other interested groups, major funding for the camp came from the Episcopal Community Services (ECS), a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. ECS provides congregations in the diocese with mission development grants for health and social ministry programs in their local communities.
